Blood Sugar Control
Thompson’s Glucose Manager 60tabs
Numbers of those with blood sugar metabolism problems are growing at an alarming rate around the world. It is wise to adopt a broad approach consisting of dietary modifications, exercise, and natural nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and herbs to help regulate blood sugar disorders, before this imbalance develops into a more serious condition.
When a meal is eaten, it is broken down into glucose, which is released into the bloodstream to be distributed around the body. Glucose is needed to create energy to power the cells of the body. In order for glucose to get from the blood stream into the cells, insulin is required, a hormone that is produced by the beta cells in the pancreas. It acts like a key in a door lock, enabling glucose to enter cells. If someone has a blood sugar metabolism disorder, then they may have insufficient levels of insulin in the body, or their body cells may have a resistance to insulin (possibly due to carrying excess bodyweight), this would cause high levels of blood glucose in the blood stream. This is dangerous because it creates free radicals, highly destructive molecules that can damage the body’s cells, particularly nerves and arteries. At the site of arterial damage, fatty plaques build up, causing obstructed arteries. The heart has to work harder to pump the blood through the narrowed passageways and circulatory problems may start to develop.
Glucose Manager is aimed at enhancing circulation and reducing the risk of development of associated health problems – poor vision, infections, slow wound healing, impotence and an increased risk of heart problems. Glucose Manager will also act to balance blood sugar levels, replenish nutrient deficiencies and speed weightloss. The formula contains B vitamins to lift energy levels and assist in the development of healthy nerve cells that conduct messages throughout the body. Also included are minerals frequently deficient in our diets: Magnesium and Zinc, minerals lacking in New Zealand soils. Zinc has been shown to elevate blood sugar levels when deficient in the diet. Chromium helps to balance blood sugar levels and sugar cravings. Each tablet of Glucose Manager contains 75 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid, a powerful antioxidant that assists to mop up free radicals before they cause serious damage in the body. The most central herb to the Glucose Manager formulation is Gymnema, a herb that will reduce appetite, sugar cravings, and balance blood sugar levels. The formula contains 250mg of standardised extract of Gymnema, (the equivalent of 2500 mg of dried herb) per tablet. Another important addition is Goat’s Rue, used since medieval times for blood sugar problems and assistance with weightloss. Herbs to help improve poor circulation, and thereby assist with problems such as impotence, impaired vision, infections, slow wound healing and heart problems, are Ginkgo and Bilberry. Garlic contributes to the prevention of heart problems by lowering blood pressure, cholesterol levels and preventing the formation of blood clots.
